With the approval of NORAD, RKK has taken steps in recent years to position itself for projects in Vietnam. The country is undergoing rapid development and devoting much of its energies to areas such as petroleum, shipbuilding and aquaculture. Simultaneously, there is large-scale investment in improved infrastructure

Teachers from Vietnam following training at RKK/SOTS

In September 2009 RKK received a visit from 3 teachers from Dung Quat College, Vietnam, who were given an updating in Process and Chemistry as part of a comprehensive programme for these participants. This visit was part of a project being conducted by RKK in collaboration with the Danish organization Selandia, and is a Danish international aid project. RKK has previously visited Dung Quat College, on the east coast of Vietnam. We wished Truong Quoc Hung, Phan Linh and Vo Duy Nhat welcome and they had a constructive and fruitful stay with us.

One of the major challenges here is the development of relevant structure and content in vocational education. Over a number of visits, RKK has established contacts with PetroVietnam and the educational authorities.

From PetroVietnam’s head office in Hanoi we have been put in touch with PVMTC – PetroVietnam Manpower Training Centre – in Vung Tau, south of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). In this region, various major projects have been launched in oil & gas and shipbuilding, where a number of Norwegian firms are involved.

In 2008 an initiative was taken concerning the joint provision of training services with Danish partners. The project is entitled "Supply of Equipment, Services and Technical Assistance Training Programme for Welding, Machining, Services & Maintenance and Petrochemical Laboratory". RKK will look on it as a step towards reinforcing our international work if we can join forces with other Scandinavian players in developing our service portfolio and establishing joint projects. The decision will be taken in the recipient organization and Danish development aid authorities early in 2009.

In the course of our activities in Vietnam we have had excellent assistance from Innovation Norway’s office in Hanoi.
