Libya
Libya is a country in North Africa. Bordering the Mediterranean to the north, Libya lies between Egypt to the east, Sudan to the south east, Chad and Niger to the south and Algeria and Tunisia to the west. The capital, Tripoli, is home to 1.7 of Libya’s 5.7 million people. The three traditional parts of the country are Tripolitania, Fezzan and Kyrenaika. Thanks to its vast petroleum reserves and low population, Libya has the third highest GNP (PPP) per capita in Africa, surpassed only by the Seychelles and South Africa. The official language is Arabic. The currency is the Libyan dinar (LYD).
