Pre-Engineering course
This is a 1-year preparatory course offered jointly by the University of Stavanger (UoS) and Rogaland Training & Education Centre (RKK). The programme is for applicants with a vocational background but who lack general academic qualifications for entry to degree courses in Engineering. It is also suitable for those with general entry qualifications but insufficient knowledge of mathematics and physics.
This is made possible through ICT-based methods and a highly flexible teaching system, allowing students to combine education with employment. Group sessions take place in Stavanger, Haugesund, Egersund and other centres of education.
A term fee (UoS registration) and course administration fee (approx. NOK 600,-/2500) are payable.
There are 2 terms in an academic year. Students are required to pay for books and materials.
Possible routes for those with vocational qualifications at Advanced Level I and II:

II examination in electro subjects) Gain sufficient practical experience Study for and obtain a craft/journeyman certificate One year’s practical experience after obtaining a craft/journeyman certificate. 2- year school course: a good combination of theory and practice Direct entry to Engineering studies (with preparatory mathematics if required) Obtain the necessary theoretical competence (see below) A certificate in general academic studies with special entry qualifications Pre-Engineering course; fulltime study or part-time combined with employment Special schemes for those coming directly from Adv. We offer:
- A new and unique type of course from the University of Stavanger, developed by RKK.
- The best teaching at the lowest cost. Tuition itself is free.
- Students pay only for materials and registration/course administration fees
Since 2004, this course has officially been under the University of Stavanger, with RKK as the administrative organiser.
In contrast with previous years, the number of teaching hours has been drastically reduced, and the emphasis instead is on follow-up over the Internet ( itslearning).
Evening classes are also transmitted nation-wide by videoconference, and lectures are recorded to allow revision and as a provision for e.g. offshore workers.
All this makes the Pre-Engineering course very flexible, so that it can be combined with employment or apprenticeships.
The course consists of 6 general subjects: mathematics, physics, Norwegian, English, social studies and chemistry. These each have their own approved curriculum, with the aim of giving participants a sound foundation for more advanced engineering courses.
